Description
The Bigfoot fat-tire recumbent bicycle can tromp around almost anywhere. It is a true all-terrain recumbent bicycle. Its large-diameter wheels climb over logs, rocks and curbs. The wide tires float over soft substrates of mud, sand and packed snow. The long wheelbase spans bumps and barrow pits. The height of the seat lifts the rider above brush, cacti and buzzworms, and provides good slow speed balance when maneuvering. The wide soft tires are easy on vegetation and have minimal impact off-road.

The Bigfoot seat is 3″ higher than the standard Ranger recumbent mountain bike, which makes it so that the feet are not flat on the ground at stops, but it is still rideable by all but the shortest of riders, and with its higher center of gravity balances very well at slower speeds.

Tire pressure is regulated to best deal with specific conditions. With 5-10 psi of pressure, the 4″ tires absorb rocky bumps and flatten just enough to maximize footprint and distribute weight on snow or sand. With 15-20 psi of pressure, the Bigfoot moves efficiently on hard-pack dirt or gravel roads.

Please note that the Bigfoot is a honkin' big bike. This off-road bike weighs substantially more than a more minimalist road recumbent and more than an upright mountain bike. The fat, high-traction tires definitely take more energy to push along a highway. A tire like the Black Floyd slick, when pumped up to a higher pressure, can roll more efficiently than the big knobbies, however; the intent of this design is to maximize rugged off-road capability, even if it comes at the expense of straight-line speed on flat surfaces. (As you can read below, it is possible to put narrower tires on certain versions of the Bigfoot, in order to attain higher efficiency road performance.)
